Following the announcement that NXT TLC will replace NXT Deadline on the December event calendar, questions have emerged regarding the future of the traditional Iron Survivor Challenge, one of the biggest attractions in the developmental brand's programming. In this regard, a recent report by WrestleVotes for Fightful Select suggests that WWE may have considered bringing this match format to the main roster.

"According to the outlet's report, the match has previously been discussed as a potential addition to the main roster's programming. However, they have been unable to confirm whether its absence from this year's NXT calendar increases the likelihood of it eventually making the move. One of the sources consulted noted that this type of match could fit into several of WWE's current storylines, including the Undisputed WWE Championship rivalry," Fightful wrote.

The Iron Survivor Challenge concept

The Iron Survivor Challenge debuted in 2022 as part of NXT Deadline, WWE's developmental brand's new PLE. Its inaugural edition received largely positive reviews, particularly for the fast-paced nature of the matches and the unpredictability of their outcomes.

The Iron Survivor Challenge combines elements of the traditional Iron Man Match and Scramble Match. The matches feature five competitors and last 25 minutes. Two wrestlers begin the contest, while the remaining three enter at staggered intervals, with five minutes between each entrant.

Falls can be scored via pinfall, submission, or disqualification. However, whenever a competitor scores a fall, the wrestler who suffers it must remain in a penalty box for 90 seconds before being allowed to return to the match. Once the time limit expires, the competitor with the most falls is declared the winner and earns a championship opportunity for the top title in their respective division.
