CM Punk will have a new challenge very soon: this Saturday at Wrestlepalooza, where he will team up with his wife AJ Lee to face Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team match that promises to be one of the main attractions of the evening.
The former heavyweight world champion acknowledged this week, in an interview with Pardon My Take, that he is already thinking about how to stay connected to wrestling once his definitive retirement arrives. The 46-year-old veteran assured that he sees himself as a "five-tool player," capable of contributing in multiple aspects of the business outside the ring, from production to commentary.
"I could be at the commentary table, work as a producer, help in the creative department or even put on the referee's uniform, although I would probably steal too much spotlight," he joked. Punk explained that nowadays they are called producers, but in his time they were known as agents, and he emphasized that he has always been passionate about all the gears behind a wrestling show.
Although he admits that retirement "is approaching," Punk also sees moments when he feels in such good shape that he believes he could continue for another ten years. However, he made it clear that when the time comes to hang up his boots, there will not be a long farewell tour like John Cena's, but a more sober and direct closure. "Now I am more present, in the moment, enjoying the moment, because I know this won't last forever," he pointed out.
We will see what happens this Saturday at Wrestlepalooza, although some rumors already point to a new match between CM Punk and Seth Rollins, this time for the Heavyweight World Championship.
