WWE has confirmed that the highly anticipated showdown between John Cena and Brock Lesnar will be the match that opens Wrestlepalooza this Saturday, September 20th. The announcement was made public during the Pat McAfee Show, where McAfee himself highlighted that it was the best way to kick off the historic partnership with ESPN.

That match will take place at the beginning of the show. Starting the ESPN-WWE era with John Cena versus Brock Lesnar. What a way to start the best partnership I've seen, with two of the greatest of all time,” McAfee stated.

The event will mark WWE's first Premium Live Event exclusively streamed on ESPN's new streaming platform. Having Cena and Lesnar kick things off reinforces the symbolism of the moment, as they are two legendary figures whose rivalry has defined an era.

A star-studded lineup

In addition to the highly anticipated Cena vs. Lesnar match, Wrestlepalooza will feature a lineup full of big names. CM Punk and AJ Lee will team up to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team match. IYO SKY and Stephanie Vaquer will battle for the currently vacant WWE Women's Championship, and the Usos will continue their intense rivalry against the duo of Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker from The Vision.

There are rumors that, with the Lesnar vs. Cena match as the opener, the bout between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre would move to the main event, although a mixed tag match, featuring the return of AJ Lee, is not ruled out as the main attraction.
