The farewell tour of John Cena is entering its final stretch and Drew McIntyre has not hidden his frustration for not having had the opportunity to face him earlier. The Scotsman has criticized what he considers a wasted stage of Cena, especially during his heel period, and now celebrates the version of Cena that he would like to face.

In the Cheap Heat podcast, McIntyre admitted that he had said harsh things about Cena in recent months and that he said them sincerely: he felt that it wasn't the version of Cena he wanted to fight against. For Drew, Cody Rhodes was the best in-ring rival, but he trusts that if he defeats Rhodes at WrestlePalooza, he will prove that he is the best.

The John Cena we are seeing now: that's what I wanted to see. I've said horrible things about him during these seven or eight months and I meant them. It wasn't the Cena I wanted to fight. I wanted Cody Rhodes. He's the best we have in the ring right now, and I still believe that. But once I defeat him at WrestlePalooza, I will be the best. And I want this John Cena. He's killing it. He's going out with a bang: Super Cena is back.

McIntyre explained that what bothered him the most were Cena's short entrances and his fixed stare attitude, because he saw a missed opportunity for verbal exchanges and the build-up that great matches generate. Although he doesn't think it was intentional disrespect, he acknowledges that speaking ill of Cena served him to express his irritation at seeing someone holding back when they could offer more.

The 'Scottish Warrior' made it clear that he needs the WWE Undisputed Championship: he wants to dangle that title as a threat in front of Cena to force him to raise the bar and create the showdown that would prove McIntyre belongs at the top. For him, that opportunity on the microphone and in the ring is the way to prove that he deserves to be at the top, as he did against CM Punk.

If McIntyre wins the championship, he could be the perfect bait to tempt Cena to one last epic encounter. It remains to be seen if the outcome of WrestlePalooza will make possible the conclusion McIntyre is seeking: to face off head-to-head with the man he has always respected and challenged. However, most fans do not see Cody Rhodes' reign in jeopardy, and neither do the odds. We will see what happens.
