Ricky Saints is the new NXT Champion. "The Absolute" defeated Oba Femi in the main event of NXT No Mercy, the flagship event of the WWE developmental brand that took place last night at the FTL War Memorial in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The match was a true battle of wills, with a champion asserting his dominance against a challenger who overcame all odds to surprise the NXT Universe.
And it was no small feat. Femi showcased his power by punishing Saints with relative ease. Ricky managed to fight back, even enjoying moments of control, but "The Ruler" kept hitting harder than his opponent. Saints didn't hold back on strategies, even resorting to roll-ups, but the Nigerian wouldn't be caught off guard.
Everything changed when the action spilled to ringside. Fed up with his opponent's resilience, Femi decided to end him on the announcers' table. Oba set up for a powerbomb, but Saints reversed it into a DDT that shifted the momentum of the match decisively.
After the attack, Ricky delivered a second DDT (this time a tornado style) causing the champion's head to crash against the floor. Back in the ring, and after surviving a pop up powerbomb, Saints executed two more DDTs to completely knock out "The Ruler", who couldn't do anything to prevent the three-count.
Thus, Ricky Saints wins his first NXT Championship, ending Oba Femi's reign of 264 days. Additionally, "The Absolute" joins the exclusive club of wrestlers who have won both male singles championships of the developmental brand (eight in total), achieving this feat in just half a year since his debut in the company.
