AEW WrestleDream will take place this Saturday October 18th, a show that has featured a great number of interesting matches. However, fans have quickly noticed a major absence on the card: Kenny Omega. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this was not part of the original plan.
Omega was supposed to team up with Kota Ibushi in a highly anticipated tag team match that would have pitted the Golden Lovers against Josh Alexander and Hechicero. However, everything fell apart after the serious injury suffered by Ibushi during the AEW Collision tapings on October 9th. During the tapings of that show, the Japanese star fractured his femur and subsequently had to undergo surgery, leaving him out of action indefinitely.
With Ibushi injured, AEW was forced to cancel the planned match, temporarily halting the highly anticipated reunion of the Golden Lovers. The duo had been gaining momentum in their rivalry with the Don Callis Family, and their reunion was generating great excitement among the company's followers.
Omega's absence is a significant blow to WrestleDream, one of AEW's standout events on the calendar, but it reflects the unpredictable nature of wrestling when injuries get in the way. Omega may likely be used in a different capacity for the event, but there are no updates on that yet.
