Speculations about a possible return of Adam Copeland to WWE to face John Cena for the last time have been completely debunked. Despite the enthusiasm of a sector of the audience, there has been no real movement between companies to make that dream possible.
As reported early this morning by Fightful, neither WWE nor AEW have held any formal, informal, or even preliminary discussions regarding Copeland's presence in Cena's farewell. The Canadian remains fully committed to AEW, where he has an active contract and ongoing programming plans. "There are no discussions, not even discussions about discussions," a source consulted by Fightful stated, making it clear that the door never even opened.
Within AEW, the stance is equally firm. Tony Khan, according to sources, does not consider allowing any crossover with WWE in this context, not even in the case of Cena's farewell tour. Copeland is scheduled in AEW's current creative structure, making any external participation impossible.
Meanwhile, WWE is moving forward with the Last Time Is Now tournament, where the winner will be tasked with headlining John Cena's final match. The bout is set to take place on December 13th, during a special edition of Saturday Night's Main Event from Washington D.C., with Copeland not among the potential candidates.
Adam Copeland's absence also brings back nostalgia for one of the most emblematic rivalries of the modern era: Cena vs. Edge. Both were involved in some of the most memorable matches and segments of the mid-2000s, from the historic Money in the Bank cash-in in 2006 to the brutal wars in TLC, Unforgiven, or their unforgettable match in Toronto. Their chemistry, both in the ring and on promos, marked a period in which WWE was undergoing a generational shift and needed antagonists capable of bringing out the best in the leader of the Cenation.
In fact, many analysts consider Edge to be, essentially, Cena's ultimate rival. While other feuds had significant moments, Copeland managed to make each encounter with Cena a chapter with its own identity, full of intensity. It was the perfect mix between the tireless hero and the calculating villain, a dynamic that defined a whole generation of fans and that, two decades later, remains one of the highest points of their careers.
