With the Last Time Is Now tournament entering its decisive phase, CM Punk has wanted to make clear his position on who should face John Cena in the match that will close one of the most important careers in recent WWE history. During his interview on the Up & Adams show, the current heavyweight world champion spoke frankly about both what he would have wanted and what he believes will happen.
When asked directly about the "perfect opponent" for Cena's farewell next month, Punk didn't hesitate to look at himself first... but without losing his sense of humor. "Well, the perfect one would probably be me".
Although that option is no longer on the table, Punk did weigh in on who could be the ideal opponent within the tournament: Gunther. According to him, his experience sharing the ring with the Austrian allows him to assert that few currently have the ability to stop him.
I don't know if he's perfect, but it looks like it will be Gunther because I've been in the ring with him and I know what he's capable of. Right now, I don't see anyone else in that tournament who can beat him.
Before discussing the tournament, Punk also wanted to assess Cena's retirement, whom he compared to an absolute legend in sports. For him, seeing him close his career in this way is a privilege. "Cena is our Wayne Gretzky. He has carried the weight of this company for a long time. Watching him leave with such class and dignity is a real luxury," he commented during the interview.
Currently, the Last Time is Now is in the semifinals phase. Only Sikoa, Gunther, LA Knight, and Jey Uso are the last four survivors of the tournament, and one of them will have the privilege of facing John Cena in his retirement match on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event.
