AEW returns to Cardiff, Wales, with an unprecedented match that promises to stand out above the rest. During the broadcast of the latest episode of AEW Collision, it was confirmed that Swerve Strickland will face Josh Alexander for the first time in the Winter is Coming special this Saturday, December 13. The clash between the former AEW World Champion and the former TNA World Champion comes at a decisive moment for both.
Alexander interrupted Strickland in Collision to make it clear that he, and not Swerve, deserves the next shot at the World Championship. The Canadian emphasized that during Strickland's absence due to injury, "the house" stopped belonging to him and fell under the influence of Don Callis. His words instantly raised tension and Strickland responded by issuing a challenge for Cardiff, which was accepted minutes later.
The match will mark Strickland's first singles bout since his defeat against Kazuchika Okada at Forbidden Door last August. Alexander, on the other hand, has not competed individually since October, when he defeated Kota Ibushi by count-out. Both arrive needing to redeem themselves and with paths that seem inevitably leading towards the title picture.
Before heading to Cardiff, Strickland will return to action this Wednesday teaming up with Hangman Page to take on Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs in a tornado tag match, a preliminary test that will assess his physical condition after his recent return.
