NJPW could soon say goodbye to some of its most prominent talents. One of them is David Finlay, whose contract with the company is reportedly close to expiring, if it hasn't already. Despite NJPW's interest in retaining him, it seems that "The Celtic Prince" may be headed to the United States, where several companies have shown interest in acquiring his services.
One of these companies is WWE, as reported in the most recent edition of Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select. When Sean Ross Sapp reached out to his sources within the company, he was informed that Finlay's name had been discussed internally, although no negotiations have taken place between the parties yet.
If he signs with the company, it is expected that the wrestler will join the ranks of NXT, where his brother (Uriah Connors) currently competes. For now, Finlay continues to compete for NJPW. As previously reported, the wrestler will work a few more dates for the Japanese company before making a final decision about his immediate future, although all signs point to a change of scenery.
David Finlay landed in NJPW in 2015 with just three years of experience in the business. Over a decade, Finlay managed to establish himself as one of the biggest stars in the company. "The Celtic Prince" has accumulated five championships to his name, including the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Title, actually becoming the inaugural champion.
Finlay has also been involved in notable rivalries with opponents like Will Ospreay, Zack Sabre Jr., and SANADA. His latest match took place last weekend at NJPW New Year Dash!! 2026, where he teamed up with Drilla Moloney (who could also be leaving the company soon), Shingo Takagi, and Yota Tsuji, only to be defeated by the United Empire.
