The latest episode of WWE NXT turned into a true festival of debuts, with more than half a dozen new faces making their first television appearance on the developmental brand. One of the new additions quickly won over the fans from the first minute. We're talking about Lizzy Rain (previously known as Rayne Leverkusen), who reacted to her first night in NXT in a subsequent interview for Busted Open After Dark.
"I'm on top of the world. I don't think I have words - well, yes, I do because (I'm) obviously talking - but I'm overwhelmed. This is what I've always wanted, what I've worked for these past years on the independent circuit, what made all my disappointments worth it when I had knee surgery. It means so much. Being on WWE's television programming leaves me absolutely speechless. I thought I'd never get here. Hand on heart, I thought I'd never get here, and now, here I am, so it's very surreal. Very surreal, and with Nikkita (Lyons), it made me very happy to be able to fight against her in my first match. I couldn't have asked for a better opponent for my debut," she said.
"What do they expect from me? I haven't really had much guidance on what they expect from me. Everything has happened very quickly. They just threw me into the deep end. I got a message during WrestleMania: 'You're going to record a promotional video for NXT,' and I was like: 'Oh! Really? Okay. I didn't know this was going to happen so fast. I just had my dark match last week.' So yeah, it all happened in an instant, so I haven't even reached the point of knowing what is expected of me yet. I just go out there and do my thing, I guess," she replied.
"When I was reading the script for the promotional video, and I said: 'Oh! I debut next week. Great.' Yeah, I found out a week in advance. I learned that I would record a video on Saturday night during the main event of WrestleMania. I get a message: 'You'll record a video on Monday.' And I'm like: 'Oh! Okay.' So I found out about that on Monday and then, when I read what I was going to say, the general idea, I thought: 'Oh! I fight next Tuesday. Great.' So, yeah," she said.
"I feel like they were on my side. I mean, I used to have a moment on the independent circuit where I'd say: 'Let's make it rain,' and I'd do the chops. Tonight, I didn't even have to say it. I started throwing chops, and some fans started chanting 'Make it Rain!'. And I thought: 'Wow! What's happening?' It was the most electrifying feeling of all, applying chops and having everyone chant 'Make it Rain'. It's an indescribable feeling," she said.
Rain burst onto the professional wrestling scene in 2021. The wrestler competed in numerous promotions in the British independent scene, including PROGRESS and Pro-Wrestling EVE, while coining her nickname "The Maiden of Metal," inspired by her passion for Heavy Metal. A character she has brought to NXT.
Last night, she debuted on the developmental brand with a hard-fought victory over Nikkita Lyons, whom she managed to take down with her Thunder Struck. Considering the excellent reception from the fans, it is expected that the wrestler will receive a significant push in the coming weeks.
