Asuka said goodbye to WWE in the latest episode of Monday Night Raw. At least, for now. The wrestler will return to Japan, where she is expected to stay for an extended period of time. In recent days, several media outlets have reported that her departure was something known by the company before the latest wave of layoffs, and that this will not mean her exit from it.
In the last few hours, Mike Johnson from PWInsider has been able to find out that Asuka needed to return home to attend to a family matter that, for privacy reasons, she has decided not to reveal. This information has been confirmed by Sean Ross Sapp in the most recent edition of Fightful Raw Post-Show.
"I definitely found out what's going on, and I don't want to misattribute the words to the person who said it, but whoever commented that there are personal matters involved was correct. I don't want to go into details about what it is exactly, but tonight I was told directly that she was not part of any cuts. As far as I know, she was not asked for a pay cut either. She signed a new contract in 2024. It was a multi-year deal," said Sapp.
"Obviously, WWE did not want Asuka to be absent for a while, so to speak. What I heard is that Asuka approached WWE and said, 'There are things I need to take care of'. It's in Japan, and she will be there for a while. I don't know how long it will be," he said.
"Obviously, it was not what WWE wanted to hear, but they considered it important to respect and support her in this. Asuka is very beloved within that company. When people naturally started asking: 'Was she fired? Was she asked to take a pay cut?', several people contacted me and said, 'We can't speak highly enough of the work she does'," he concluded.
Asuka personally said goodbye to IYO SKY in an emotional backstage segment in the latest episode of WWE Raw. "The Empress of Tomorrow" named SKY as her worthy successor and a friend she is proud of. After that, she picked up her bags and left the venue with a "See you later." At the moment, it is unknown how long she will be absent from the company's television programming, but we all hope she can satisfactorily resolve this personal matter.
