Gunther and Nick Aldis had a tense encounter backstage after the conclusion of Night of Champions. Frustrated by his title loss, "The Ring General" lashed out at the SmackDown General Manager, who ended up pushing the Austrian. As a result, WWE decided to temporarily suspend Aldis from his duties on the blue brand.
Since then, there has been much talk about a possible match between the two men in what would be Aldis' return to the ring after nearly three years of inactivity. This afternoon, WrestleVotes Radio, through Fightful Select, has reported that significant internal discussions have taken place regarding the possibility of developing a rivalry between them in the ring.
"According to a source, the idea of Nick Aldis' return to competition has been raised on several occasions. One of them took place in 2025, when a proposed rivalry with Solo Sikoa gained traction within the company," wrote Fightful.
"WrestleVotes adds that the possibility of a showdown between Gunther and Aldis had been previously discussed, although not in the context of current events. Should the match come to fruition, the expectation is for Gunther to directly face Nick Aldis, rather than the General Manager selecting another wrestler to represent him," the outlet wrote.
Nick Aldis last competed in October 2023, just days before being introduced as the new General Manager of SmackDown. Over these years, many fans have wished to see him compete in a WWE ring. Now, this possibility seems closer to becoming a reality than ever before.
