The unexpected coronation of CM Punk as the new Undisputed Champion of WWE has raised many questions. First and foremost, it is expected that "The Best in the World" will join the SmackDown roster, as several media outlets reported in the weeks leading up to his return to the company's television programming. Now, a new report from Wrestlevotes and Fightful Select has revealed more details on the matter.

"Following CM Punk's return to WWE programming and his conquest of the WWE Undisputed Championship, WrestleVotes reported through Fightful Select that the plan is for Punk to appear primarily on SmackDown, with occasional appearances on Raw as needed," the outlet wrote.

"According to sources at NBCUniversal, the network has been pushing for over a year for Punk to have a greater presence on SmackDown, as they consider him one of WWE's top stars. One source believes that Punk's presence on the show could help SmackDown regain the momentum it has lost in recent months. On the other hand, a source from WWE's creative team assures that there are no indications that Punk's reign as champion will be short-lived," the report concluded.

It is worth noting that since his return to WWE in 2023, CM Punk has not competed in any matches on SmackDown, although he has made some appearances on the brand, such as the episode that saw AJ Lee's return to the company. His last televised match on SmackDown took place on January 7, 2014, where he teamed up with The New Age Outlaws to face The Shield.
