Brock Lesnar was one of the main protagonists of WWE SummerSlam. "The Beast" faced Oba Femi in the main event of the first night of the event, which would ultimately be the last match of his career, as he himself confirmed yesterday. An announcement that explained the strange and emotional ending of that show, when Lesnar decided to return to the ring to dedicate a few words to his opponent in what can be described as a "passing of the torch".
However, that segment was not planned in advance. It was Lesnar himself who decided to set aside his character to embrace "The Ruler" and name him the "future of the industry," adding that he was already part of the past. That gesture not only surprised Femi, but also all the people backstage, who knew that the script did not include any of that. This was explained by The Miz in a recent interview for TZM.
"I think everyone was surprised by Brock Lesnar, and it wasn't because he lost. It was because of what happened after the match. He was leaving the ring, but suddenly he turned around and, basically, as we usually say, he gave the rub to Oba Femi," he said. "People don't understand: the creative team didn't tell him to do that. Brock does what Brock wants to do. No one tells him what to do; when he feels he needs to do something, he just goes and does it. He's unique. Literally, you will never see talent like Brock Lesnar again."
"He was 'The Next Big Thing' and now he has passed the torch to who he believes is the next big star, and that puts a lot of pressure on Oba Femi. But I think Oba Femi is the kind of talent capable of handling that pressure and, hopefully, becoming the next big star on his own merits. I thought it was an incredibly special moment," he stated.
