The episode of WWE Raw on July 27 featured a special concert starring Danhausen and Joe Hendry, in which the Minihausens, the Los Angeles Clippers Cheerleaders team, and the controversial boxer Ryan Garcia also participated. However, the reception of that segment by the audience was mostly negative.
Many fans labeled the segment as "cringe", while others did not understand Garcia's presence, a man who has been involved in several controversies in recent years, including racist and homophobic comments. The segment was also not well received by many within the company, who directly placed the pressure on the shoulders of the writing team.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the failure of that segment is part of the rules of the professional wrestling business, where not all ideas can work. This was explained by Joe Hendry when asked about the negative reception of the segment in a recent interview for Cheap Heat.
"My thoughts were the following, and I will be completely honest about it. We all feel a huge passion for what we do, and, just so you get an idea, when I signed with WWE, I made the decision to move to Orlando. I was going to commit one hundred percent to NXT, so I moved there, attended classes, and tried to absorb all the knowledge possible. I told them, 'Put me on all the local shows'. I wanted to work on all the events they organized to contribute my bit, learn, and be part of the system. That has always been my attitude towards WWE, and I mention this because both us, as wrestlers, and all the people working in the company, feel a huge passion for what we do. My goal, and it always has been, is to offer value to the audience," he said.
"There have been occasions in the independent circuit where I even made a music video mocking my opponent. I remember one in Germany, where there were about 300 people, and I thought, 'I hope this joke works'. I was behind the curtain saying, 'Come on!'. You want to connect with people, and there is no better feeling in the world than giving the audience that moment, that laugh. So I will say this: we give absolutely everything. I always give my best effort and we will try many things. Some will work and others won't, but we will always put our best effort on the table," he stated.
"I feel like the fans have put me in this position. We talk about WrestleMania; that happened thanks to the audience's reaction. And probably WrestleMania was possible because of the response I received at the Royal Rumble, which in turn came from the reactions I was generating with everything I was doing up to that point. The fans have always been there to support me and they are the ones who have brought me to this position. That's why I always want to give them the best version of myself."
