Brie Bella suffered a shoulder injury during her tag team match at WWE SummerSlam. The injury occurred in the early stages of the fight, specifically when she executed a Russian Leg Sweep on Fallon Henley. After that, she had to survive the onslaught of her opponents (Fatal Influence) before tagging in Nikki. However, her physical condition was complicating her work.
So much so that Daphanie LaShaunn (the match referee) suggested to Brie the possibility of stopping the fight. However, the WWE Hall of Famer refused to do so, enduring the pain until she could finally tag in her sister. This is how Brie explained it in her Vlog about her experience at SummerSlam.
"The most incredible thing is that some of the girls were talking about this: when you broke your ankle, you continued with the fight, and then I injured my shoulder," she said to her sister Nikki. "It's very funny because we always try to please others, but all that time all I could think was: 'No, I have to keep going so Nikki can get the tag'. They were telling me: 'Stay on the ground', they were even thinking about stopping the fight, and I would respond: 'No, no, no'. Even though I was in unbearable pain, all I could think about was: 'Nikki has to make that comeback'."
Despite Brie's injury, the post-match plans were not altered, with Nikki launching an assault on Paige (in which Brie barely participated). This would mark the beginning of a new storyline in which many expect a reunion between the British wrestler and AJ Lee. However, these plans will have to be postponed until Brie is medically cleared to compete again.
