Nick Aldis made his debut in a WWE ring at SummerSlam to face Gunther in a one-on-one match. A match through which "The Ring General" hoped to expand his particular list of rivals he has retired. However, he may not be able to add Aldis' name to that list just yet, as revealed in a recent report by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select.
"WrestleVotes Radio has reported that, internally, it is believed that Nick Aldis will return to compete in the WWE ring after his performance at SummerSlam. However, a source pointed out that Aldis may not return to fight until 2027," the outlet wrote.
"The same source added that several people backstage consider that Aldis has as much talent —or even more— than several of the regular wrestlers who appear on WWE's television programming, and would like to see him play a significant role as a competitor within the company," the report concluded.
After his match at SummerSlam, Aldis was cheered by fans, and also earned the respect of Gunther, who admitted that the Brit was a much tougher opponent than he had anticipated. With "The Ring General" back in the backstage area, Aldis celebrated with his wife (Mickie James) and son in the ring, leading many to believe he would not compete in WWE again.
Currently, Nick Aldis has returned to his role as General Manager of SmackDown. A position he had to resign from to obtain WWE's permission to compete in the summer's biggest event. One day after regaining his position, Aldis added Gunther to the match for an opportunity at the WWE Undisputed Championship that took place on the second day of SummerSlam. A move that caught many by surprise and could have some sort of explanation in the blue brand's television programming.
