Seven years after its foundation, All Elite Wrestling has achieved its goal of becoming an alternative for those fans looking for something different from what WWE, the biggest company in this business, offers. Of course, there are also fans who equally follow the programming of both companies, and who would be delighted to see a crossover between both.
An idea that Swerve Strickland sees as impossible to carry out, at least as of today. "No. At least, not as long as I live", responded the former AEW World Champion when specifically asked about it during a recent interview granted to Carl Lamarre from Billboard.
When Lamarre asked him why he saw this crossover as impossible, Swerve replied: "It all comes down to control and marketing. It's like the NFL: WWE has to protect its brand. There is no chance they will allow any of our wrestlers to stand out more than theirs or prove to be better than them. Oba Femi can beat anyone. You have to protect him and make sure he stays at that level. The same goes for Gunther. And Roman Reigns, too. And with Cody Rhodes, even more so, because of the rivalry with AEW. There's a lot of that."
"When we talk about the women's division, the situation is even more complicated. Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan, and Chelsea Green need to be protected. We would all love to see a match between Seth Rollins and Will Ospreay. That's the kind of showdown that defines a whole generation, but who do you protect? Who has the upper hand? Those of us in the locker room just want to have these matches. I'm very close with Carmelo Hayes, Je'Von Evans, and Oba Femi. They are my guys, and I care about them a lot. I don't care who wins. Even if the match ends in a double disqualification, I don't care," he added.
In this regard, Lamarre asked Swerve if there was any wrestler he would like to face. "I no longer think about those kinds of things. Now I want to be that rival that people dream of and want to see face anyone. I'm at that stage of my career," responded the former AEW World Champion.
