Adam Copeland returned at the AEW All In event to defend his friend Christian Cage from the brutal attack of his former allies. Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian betrayed their mentor and were trying to seriously injure him when the former WWE Edge returned after several months to fix the situation. In his last appearance, the veteran wrestler had been mercilessly beaten by his former friends Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, FTR.
Despite coming out to save his partner, Copeland let Cage know that he deserved the attack for being a selfish person who doesn't think about anyone else. However, in recent weeks, the revenge against FTR, Kip Sabian, and Nick Wayne began to bring them back together. In the latest Dynamite show, while Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood were mercilessly attacking Copeland, Christian Cage surprisingly came out to defend his former friend. After taking care of the enemies, Cage handed his weapon to Copeland, seeking to earn his trust. With this act, as Christian Cage was leaving, Adam Copeland took it and gave him a strong hug, confirming the return of their team.
Both will team up at the Forbidden Door event to face the duo of Sabian and Wayne. In his appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer went a step further in explaining this match. Meltzer stated that their main goal is to establish Copeland and Christian as a team after almost 15 years to justify a future opportunity for the AEW Tag Team Championship.
"I guess the idea was that they could have the first match and give them a victory because it could be a title match. So you can't complain that they haven't even won a match and they're already getting a title shot. So they give them a win because it could be a title match. However, in recent weeks, the revenge against FTR, Kip Sabian, and Nick Wayne began to bring them back together," confirmed the journalist.
In addition to this, Meltzer stated that another purpose of this match is to close a rivalry that will boost both Sabian and Wayne. "It's a great moment for Nick and also for Kip. They won't win, but it's an opportunity to shine and have a good fight against two very smart veterans," argued Meltzer.
We will have to see how the story of Copeland and Cage unfolds in the coming weeks. Although they may receive a title opportunity in the future, they may still have to close the chapter that Adam Copeland has open with FTR.
