A few days before the return of Saturday Night's Main Event last December, WWE announced that Jesse "The Body" Ventura, the former superstar and commentator of the company during the Golden Era, would be one of the main pillars in the return of the special Saturday night event. Fans were very happy with this news, as Ventura is a highly respected figure who perfectly fulfilled the task of bringing nostalgia to the show.
"The Body" would appear on that and four more occasions in the classic eighties program, with the last one being in the July edition. However, that is most likely the definitive one, as, according to Dave Meltzer (Wrestling Observer News), the contract between the commentator and the company would have already expired.
According to the journalist, the contract stipulated a duration of one year, which would end in December. However, the contract would have come into effect several weeks earlier, which would explain Ventura's absence during the last edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.
Many have already criticized this decision by the company, but as of today, it seems that there is no turning back, and we will not see Jesse Ventura in WWE in the short term. According to Fightful, a large part of the blame for this departure lies in the comments made by the commentator last May during the steel cage match between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest. In that match, Ventura annoyingly and insistently criticized the way the match ended, which would have tested the patience of the top executives.
At 74 years old, this seemed like a great opportunity for Ventura to continue captivating the more seasoned fans, while also making an impact on the younger ones with his eccentric and distinctive personality. Unfortunately, it seems that the project is not moving forward.
