Marcel Barthel, better known as Ludwig Kaiser in WWE (and the man behind the mask of El Grande Americano), was arrested on May 20 in the state of Florida for alleged assault. The accuser claimed that the German wrestler had repeatedly hit him after a tense encounter inside an elevator. Barthel was released from prison after posting a $1,000 bond.
A payment made by a very close friend well known to fans of professional wrestling. According to court records, Walter Hahn, better known as Gunther in WWE, was the person responsible for paying the $1,000 bond. It is worth noting that Gunther and Kaiser have been close friends for decades.
The pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 16. In the meantime, Barthel has permission to travel freely, allowing him to fulfill his commitments both in WWE and AAA. His character of El Grande Americano has become one of the biggest draws for Mexican fans. His popularity has not been diminished by his arrest, especially after a version of events leaked in which Kaiser allegedly reacted to a xenophobic comment from the accuser towards his current partner, the Mexican Andrea Bazarte.
Meanwhile, Barthel is gearing up for one of the most important matches of his professional career. As El Grande Americano, the wrestler is set to face his nemesis, Original El Grande Americano, in a pivotal "Mask vs. Mask" match at AAA Noche de los Grandes, a show that will take place this coming Saturday at the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.
