Next December, WWE will premiere the John Cena Classic, a special event conceived and directed by the seventeen-time world champion. The main particularity of the tournament will be that the winners will be decided by fan voting. A novelty that "The Greatest of All Time" highlighted the day he shared the news with the world.
However, since Cena announced the project, few official updates about its development have emerged. In fact, with just over two months left in the year, the date of the event has not yet been confirmed. A date that could coincide with AEW Worlds End, as reported by Fightful in a recent article.
"Regarding the rumored John Cena Classic —which Cena himself has stated will take place in December—, a source could not confirm if the event will be held on December 12, after WrestlePalooza, with a show in the United States that same night, or if it will take place the following weekend, on December 19. This latter option would coincide with AEW Worlds End, as well as with AAA Guerra de Titanes, which would take place later that same night," the outlet wrote.
"A WWE source pointed out that Saturday, December 5 does not seem like a likely option, as the company does not want to organize major events for three consecutive weekends. On the other hand, December 26 is already on WWE's calendar, as they plan to hold their traditional Christmas show at Madison Square Garden," Fightful wrote.
"Additionally, a source indicated that the possibility of including fan voting in the event is still something John Cena wants to carry out. As we have been informed, several ideas have been considered internally to make that possibility a reality," the report concluded.
At the moment, it is unknown which platform will be responsible for broadcasting the show. Netflix showed interest in the project from the day Cena announced its creation, although no official announcement has been made yet.
Recently, the seventeen-time world champion stated that WWE was finalizing the details of the tournament, but that no more information would be revealed until its official presentation. Among the pending mysteries to be resolved is, as we have seen, the date chosen by the company to hold the event.
